<br />
Lucy Hale in Moschino<br />
<a href="http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2012/11/02/lucy-hale-in-moschino-2012-cma-awards/" target="_blank"><img src="http://redcfa.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Lucy-Hale-In-Moschino-2012-CMA-Awards.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Shawna Thompson (no one knows who this is by!)<br />
<img height="640" src="http://fashionindustrynetwork.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/shawna-thompson-caviar-dreams-cma-awards-2012.jpg?w=640&h=1014" width="403" /><br />
<br />
Taylor Swift in Jenny Packham<br />
<img alt="2012 CMA Awards: What the Stars Wore!: Taylor Swift" src="http://www.usmagazine.com/uploads/assets/photo_galleries/regular_galleries/1884-2012-cma-awards-what-the-stars-wore/photos/1351815767_taylor-swift-cmas-560.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Kathleen Perry in Lanvin (I'm not crazy about her hair or accessorizing, but the dress itself is fin and unique).<br />
<a href="http://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/975627/top-6-worst-dressed-at-the-2012-cma-awards" target="_blank"><img height="640" src="http://cdn.sheknows.com/articles/2012/11/kimberly-perry-worst-dressed-cma-awards.jpg" width="392" /></a><br />
<br />
Martina McBride in Catherine Deane<br />
<img alt="2012 CMA Awards: What the Stars Wore!: Martina McBride" src="http://www.usmagazine.com/uploads/assets/photo_galleries/regular_galleries/1884-2012-cma-awards-what-the-stars-wore/photos/1351817205_martina-mcbride-cmas-560.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Carrie Underwood in Tony Ward<br />
<a href="http://www.hollywire.com/2012/11/carrie-underwood-vs-carrie-underwood-which-her-12-cma-looks-was-best" target="_blank"><img src="http://content.hollywire.com/sites/default/files/carrie-underwood-cma-dress-4.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And my absolute favorite is Carrie Underwood in Alice + Olivia (which actually looks surprisingly similar to <a href="http://victoriuss.blogspot.com/2012/10/miss-colbie-caillat.html" target="_blank">Colbie's ensemble</a> in a recent post).<br />
<a href="http://coolspotters.com/brands/alice-olivia/photos_videos/2287200#medium-2287200" target="_blank"><img src="http://www3.images.coolspotters.com/photos/962272/carrie-underwood-and-alice-and-olivia-azala-boatneck-sequin-flare-dress-gallery.jpg" /></a><br />

I was so pleasantly surprised when she came out and she was so pretty, and I was coveting her outfit the entire show.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">She was wearing a gold sparkly cap sleeved sweater, a white pleated hi-lo hem skirt, high-heeled suede boots (which aren't totally my style but so her) and stunning gold jewelry.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the concert for a number of different reasons. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> 1. Her music, especially the lyrics are just fantastic- very positive and upbeat. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> 2. She is so feminine and beautiful, a real woman's woman. All the guys were chanting "We love you, Colbie!" </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> 3. She is strong-willed, and has some soul. You can just hear it in her voice, but also she was bustin' a move on stage.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Here were my two favorite songs she performed:</span></div>

I completely ran out of time, and fabric so I wasn't able to make the ensemble I had originally intended to for Entry 2. Here is how it turned out...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXgbhA0wwygjjsFW_W4ePsL6JJCrXefToLQlMelaZRWGvJjaCmk08qCFQi-JjxcuyLyiM9-3318SlFc3NIGawphyphenhyphenFZbn8Y8F40b9Kg-fvVDaob7bbYCyGXuZ9M7_0HVgtUsdCoGeZIWQs/s1600/Picture1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" oea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXgbhA0wwygjjsFW_W4ePsL6JJCrXefToLQlMelaZRWGvJjaCmk08qCFQi-JjxcuyLyiM9-3318SlFc3NIGawphyphenhyphenFZbn8Y8F40b9Kg-fvVDaob7bbYCyGXuZ9M7_0HVgtUsdCoGeZIWQs/s400/Picture1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Instead of the grey ruffle top I used this black beaded blouse.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3T9ADj4QQuBkvmP4yZs-9AcIFvjmoY4csxj9-9X-Bq1JhjLyBqs2iEL7DgEDjSnHDS8vkpJKsehpT0ullYOd6cA9KsDp9ROJXaFArhO0YvJiTqO5IXqHlYURRxpl7KOkO3_p9SGTDtf0/s1600/Picture2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="257" oea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3T9ADj4QQuBkvmP4yZs-9AcIFvjmoY4csxj9-9X-Bq1JhjLyBqs2iEL7DgEDjSnHDS8vkpJKsehpT0ullYOd6cA9KsDp9ROJXaFArhO0YvJiTqO5IXqHlYURRxpl7KOkO3_p9SGTDtf0/s400/Picture2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I dismantled the front and back yoke so that I could reassmble it using the different blue fabrics.</div>

<span style="font-size: large;">The model, Libby, is a friend of mine and she is just helping me out. I told her she has the exact body type of a stereotypical runway model. She said she had considered modeling in high school but was too afraid of the cattiness of the industry. She is a "Senior Intern" in the Catholic Studies Leadership Interns program. You go girl!</span></div>

Once we are finished with our ensembles, they will be showcased and sold at a "Trunk Show" here in St. Paul. All our designs will be opened for a vote on "People's Choice" at the beginning of November. Stay tuned as I blog about the process!</span><br />

I could probably write an entire 10-page essay on all the things we did, not to mention how it all impacted me, but for your sake I will try to give you the abbreviated version.</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-874" height="298" src="http://blogs.stthomas.edu/cathstudies/files/2012/09/168824_10151144720701102_1333428957_n-625x468.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">All the interns when we spent a day visiting with the Little Sisters of the Poor and even put on a talent show for them!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The year’s theme for the Interns was “charity,” and what better place to see that in practice than at one of the nation’s most active and thriving Catholic Charities location in Denver, CO.? On May 22nd, thirty college students, one priest, and I got on a plane for the Rocky Mountains, looking forward to a 10-day trip that ended up changing my life and my views on everything.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The common sentiment among the Interns in years past has been “not much of what we learn throughout the year will make sense until the Spring Institute at the end. Then it will all just click.” How true that is. Now don’t get me wrong, I learned plenty of things throughout the year, very informative and helpful things from how to run a Christ-centered business, to why marriage between a man and a woman matters, to what my temperament is and how that can play out while being a leader. Before this year I thought charity meant giving money to the poor and collecting canned goods. However, the overall theme and meaning of charity came alive for me because of our trip to Denver.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The ten days were anything but boring. Our schedules were jam-packed with visits to the happening places in the Archdiocese, monumental Churches, homeless shelters, informational sessions at Catholic Charities as well as a talent show, dinners out, and intense games of Mafia. We also spent most of our time with missionaries there who were part of a program called <a href="http://christinthecitymissionaries.com/" target="_blank">“Christ in the City.”</a> They hosted us, showed us the town, taught us about their ministry and shared their world with us. In fact, their witness had such a great impact on our group that after the visit, three of the Interns decided to do a year of missionary work with them!</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" aria-busy="true" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="300" src="https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/527794_10151143073356102_1724302797_n.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">We traveled around in 15 passenger vans, always sure to make an entrance.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">The most influential moment of the trip came when we were to live a day in the life of a missionary by participating in “Street Walking.” This is when you walk the main roads of downtown Denver and just spend time with those on the streets there. I. Was. Terrified. I seriously contemplated saying I was sick so that I wouldn’t have to go. I had never done anything like this before and I feared the worst. What if they ignore me, are rude to me or ridicule me for thinking I could make a difference? We were all worried at first, “what if we go up to someone and they’re not actually homeless?” That definitely happened a few times, and someone even asked an intern if she was homeless! Sometimes you would say hello to someone and they would take that invitation, run with it and talk unceasingly for hours. Others wouldn’t even look you in the eye or say a word. But what we learned was that the most valuable thing you can give someone experiencing homelessness is your time. To show that someone cares about them, that they are not forgotten, that they indeed still possess an inherent dignity. Just stopping to say hello is huge. Most people ignore them and walk past like they don’t even exist.</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" aria-busy="true" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="400" src="https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/301739_10151144721416102_1272720533_n.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="300" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">One of my favorite guys, Mike.</td></tr>

<span style="font-size: large;"></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">We met people from all walks of life, with all types of personalities. Some people were very hopeful, positive, cheerful, and faithful. Others were very desperate, rude and angry. Some people had excellent grammar and manners, others were disabled and in wheel chairs. But this exercise taught me more than just to spend time with the downtrodden. It taught me that the dignity of the human person is most important and it needs to be cherished and upheld at all times—whether it is the person experiencing homelessness on the street, or the person walking by him in a Gucci suit on his way to a business meeting. Their soul is more important than their current state of life. Christ calls me to, no, rather, Christ demands me to do what I can with what I have to preserve that.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Through the Leadership Interns program, I have come to learn what charity really means. It is not only a big benefit one attends once a year, but rather a lifestyle. We are called to act charitably by making small sacrifices for those around us. To speak charitably to all those we interact with by being loving, kind and uplifting, and to honor, praise and glorify He who is charity Himself.</span><br />

I turn on the lights, and crank up the heat and radio. However, when the lyrics lately are "blow my whistle, baby" and "</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I know we only met but let’s pretend it’s love... tonight let’s get some and live while we’re young," I find myself refraining from pushing the dial so quickly. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">However, here is a little gem I came across while station-surfing the other day. It has a fun beat, all-too relatable yet encouraging message, and she has some sweet outfits! A bit on the costume-y side, but very feminine and I am lovin' the accessorizing. Enjoy!</span><br />

The image consultant's philosophy was that every person has an "Element" and the element is made up of a color palette that will highlight the person's overall complexion. Here is the first outfit pic in the "Elements" series. First up is "Fire." Take a look at this </span><a href="http://pinterest.com/KatieStockwell1/fire-element/" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">board</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"> for a better idea of what colors make up the color palette for "fire." </span><br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Even though I love fashion and everything about clothes, I too often neglect the other important aspects of a woman that make her look complete: accessories, makeup and HAIR! Until recently, that is.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Last summer my hair was just looking terrible, "scraggly" is my term for it, so my friend recommended a gal she went to high school with. I visited </span><a href="http://www.mystylistkristy.blogspot.com/2011/08/catherine.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">her website</span></a><span style="font-size: large;"> to check it out, and saw an awesome deal where if you do a "cyber consult" with her, you get 50% off the first cut! So I sent Kristy a photo of myself, a couple pictures of celebrities that I liked and she e-mailed back a few of her own ideas. If nothing else, I would go get my haircut and get a good deal.</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">BUT IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1. She has a little salon in her home that is SO CUTE! I want my whole house to have her salon's decor--not to mention I love the smell of the products she uses.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2. She is SO great! So cute, so nice, so real and so Mormon which equals fabulously modest.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">3. She is a really talented hair stylist. She knows what she is doing and what she is talking about, but perhaps more importantly she knows how to deliver that look you want. While going with short hair my biggest concern has been to remain feminine, and she not only understood and recognized this desire but has also held to that standard.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">A conversation I keep finding myself participating in lately is about the fact that we need good, Christ-following people in every area of life, even seemingly non-Christian fields, specifically and even especially in the fashion and beauty industry. Kristy is a perfect example and witness of this. When I go get my hair cut, it is not just a get in and get out kind of thing. We talk a little about faith, a little more about family and a lot about fashion. It is refreshing to have positive and uplifting conversation with her. Also, a really unique quality to Kristy is that she is so encouraging and inspiring, every single time I walk out of her salon I feel reassured, rejuvenated and more confident than ever, ready to take on what the week ahead will throw at me. I never knew a hair stylist could do that!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The most recent style plunge I have taken is getting a pixie cut, and I have never gotten more compliments in my life. I am tellin' you, Kristy is a rockstar!</span><br />

The lovely Emma Watson was the latest inspiration.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><i><strong>Modest Tip: When shopping, try searching less common sections of the store. For example, this entire outfit is from the kids sections of Gap and Target. They are XL, and often times stores even carry XXL or XXXL! This is great for shorties like me :) And because the styles are made for younger girls, the necklines are not as revealing, and (usually) the skirts are longer. Also, the price differences are significant.</strong></i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><i><br /><strong></strong></i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><i><strong>However, if you are not a petite or don't want to run the risk of having the same clothes as your 3rd grade students, check out the Misses as well (even if you are a Juniors kinda girl). You may think most of the clothes are too mom-ish, but usually the styles are a little more loose fitting and the tops are often not as low-cut.</strong></i></span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Don't know who Phil Wickham is? Here is my favorite song of his:</span><br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Sorry ladies, he's married :/</div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Anyway, I was expecting a concert concert, but it was more of a Praise and Worship set. But it turns out that is exactly what my friend and I needed. She had been having a rough day and I was my usual complacent self, and together we were able to experience the Holy Spirit move, and sing a long with the talented Phil Wickham.</span><br />

I wanted a camel color crossbody bag, one that would serve it's purpose, be able to fit my books at least sized 8.5"x11", have a small pocket on the outside for easy access to my phone and keys, but with a little more style and sophistication than a regular backpack. I also decided I could splurge on a leather bag because they last longer, and I worked a lot over the summer so I could indulge a bit. It was tough to find a style I liked that was big enough to meet my criteria, but I decided on this bag from Fossil, especially because when I use my Discover card I get a 10% cashback bonus!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=12052&langId=-1&catalogId=25005&partNumber=ZB5255P&cm_vc=PDPZ1" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvtfks4PsJTV50dJZfEpJqFWzQLDqC5WUrOeFKx9_VDM8vYDdhrFtf2L2y2WehDvl-NtKG1bwePv8h8hMsUVo1Erjuu2vjnb0a9GU6Zv9lo4tw3IAYDO5dPUrTrKy9pk9b61rSqh9Wqj8/s400/ZB5255932_main.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">When I told my friend that I was willing to spend that much on a bag, because I couldn't find anything else I liked that was more affordable she said "I bought mine that I really like from Delia's, I bet I can find you something for much cheaper." And she was right, she showed me this little number and I was in love! Only $29.50! Needless to say, I ordered it right away and put the Fossil bag out of my mind.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">A couple days later I went to my favorite thrift store and you will never guess what I found. A crossbody, camel colored bag that even fit my laptop! The best part, it cost me $8. I was able to cancel my order with Delia's and my thrifted bag and I have been very happy together.</span></div>

Finally, Old Navy came out with <a href="http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=7520&vid=1&pid=253887&scid=253887052" target="_blank">a pair</a> at the beginning of fall (I don't know what they were thinking) but I absolutely LOVE THEM! So now I have to dress them up to make them fall-ish. </span><br />

I usually take any opportunity to dress formally that I can, and weddings are a perfect opportunity, but I was dying to wear this outfit. The top is knit and the skirt a casual soft fabric, so to glam it up I paired it with my pearl necklace and bracelet and wore the highest heels I own.</span><br />

I am so surprised and saddened that more people don't know about Etsy and if you don't, you've come to the right place. Etsy is a sort of e-commerce website where people can sell handmade items and all things crafty. I have bought a chain, a necklace, fabric and notions for my designs and a ring on etsy. I have been very satisfied with all of it. My post today is to showcase the ring I bought. I have owned two purity rings in my life, both of which I have lost. This was my third attempt at buying one but this final time I went about it a little differently. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My understanding of a purity ring was that it had two main purposes. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1. To be a sign of your commitment to remain pure and abstinent until your wedding day.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2. To remind you of this promise, especially in times of struggle and temptation.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Well, by the time I was ready to buy my third ring, I felt neither of those purposes applied to me anymore. I didn't need a ring to be a sign of this commitment. I knew I was commited to this, anyone who knew me knew I was committed to this, and anyone who didn't know me would surely see this by my lifestyle. An expensive but pretty piece of metal was unessecary. Second, since the first time I made the decision and commitment to remain pure, I never experienced a situation that lead to a time of struggle or temptation in that respect. Needless to say, something to remind me of that decision has not been very high on my priority list. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">However, there was and still is something I struggle with every day: waiting for what the Lord has in store for me, particularly in regards to a man. I struggle with the idea that my goal in life is to find a spouse, and when that happens I will be finally fulfilled, satisfied and happy. However, not only will getting married NOT satisfy and fulfill my deepest desires, but it is also very possible that I will never get married--it is not guaranteed. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">THEN I saw this incredible video by the brilliant spoken word artist Janette-Ikz and it has changed my life and given me so much hope and courage. It is hilarious and so true.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/igCj3jsbcqs?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></span></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Thus the desire for my "I will wait" ring. I had the ring custom made from </span><a href="https://www.etsy.com/transaction/70417826" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">this</span></a><span style="font-size: large;"> shop on Etsy.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The outside reads "AMDG" which stands for Ad majorem Dei gloria, which in latin means "For the Greater Glory of God." On the inside it reads "I will wait." </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">This ring is a reminder to first give Glory to God, in all times, good and bad, and all seasons of my life. The second reminder is to wait for God's timing for all things, and for His Will to be done, not mine. This is my biggest daily struggle, not remaining pure.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So I challenge you, it may not be a ring, but set something in place to remind you daily to give Glory to God in all things, but also for His continued help in your struggles.</span>Catherine Husshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06363084080692591969noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3469457384808127219.post-76376180790082456382012-09-24T22:46:00.001-07:002012-09-24T22:47:07.302-07:00A Floral Fall<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">As fall is upon us, I am bringing out the heavier layers and darker colors. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I am all about the peplum! It is very flattering on any figure type, as it gives you a waistline while hiding the hips/love handles. Plus who doesn't love a little extra "flare" in her step?</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I decided to pair gold jewelry with this outfit to give it a little softer, fancier look, whereas "tying-in" the black would have given it a harsher, more edgy look.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I just added a new page titled "Resources." It is mostly filled with links to my favorite modest shops, but also a couple other items as well, such as really great magazines. I will try and add more as I come across them. There are definitely more modest websites out there, but I feel these sites most closely line up with the vision of "Chased Clothing": being modest but also fashionable and current.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Shades: Old Navy, Top: shop in Cali, Skirt: Old Navy, Bracelet: thrifted</span></div>
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Man, put some stunna shades on me and a whole new sassy Catherine comes out! I love love love maxi dresses/skirts for several reasons. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">1. Very feminine.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">2. So comfy.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">3. You can wear leggings underneath when it gets cold and no one even knows.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">4. Don't have to shave.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">This summer I found that I really like pairing mint/teal with an orangey/peach. However, my tip when pairing such colors that might seem like they don't go together well, is to "tie-in the colors together." This is a perfect job for jewelry and/or shoes. For example, the bracelet I am wearing, although you can't tell from the picture, has both the coral color and the teal color in the bracelet. Hence the tying-in. Other options for this outfit would have been a teal necklace or headband, or coral shoes (although, I think that would be a little too much).</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="270" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Iu7srrECvOg?fs=1" width="480"></iframe><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Dear President Obama,</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I am a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a niece, a granddaughter and a friend. I am also a student at a private university.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Before pursuing my current dream of becoming a fashion designer, I dreamed of being a fire fighter, a professional singer, a WNBA star, and yes, even president.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Because I am neither ready nor willing to be faced with the possible outcomes of being sexually active--whether that be the level of intimacy that comes with this practice, an STI or a new life, I have exercised my right as a woman to remain abstinent until the day when my situation would allow or welcome those possible outcomes. For this reason, I will not and never plan to use birth control.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I would also strongly urge all other women to re-think their use of contraceptives. They are harmful on your body, the environment, and even your relationships. I am just lookin' out for my sistas.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">If I were to make the decision to use birth control, I would not and could not expect my school or employer to pay for my personal decision, especially if it went against the conscience and longstanding teaching of that institution. These harmful drugs are neither the same price, for the same purpose, nor as common as cough medicine. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">If, and God-willing when, I have a daughter of my own, I want to be ready and fully willing to give her the life she deserves, in a country where women and girls are dignified and held as precious and where freedom of religion is a given. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Please, Mr. President, don't you want the same for your daughters?</span></div>

This past weekend we had our beginning of the year retreat. In this program we are called "Young colleagues and professionals" and are expected to dress and act accordingly. Here is what I put together:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgJR4yaveVxhUgNxn8rbxBcsPhpRU9hoz5DX-3ggi3uRhARd-iSKvWl2FYJaFRipoY26HbiIrxOctyTjtEVD93oGTbmPzuR81puYkVSXn4ALjm-xXVRq180A7r3JxfO3r2FNBv4bN0FpU/s1600/blog2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgJR4yaveVxhUgNxn8rbxBcsPhpRU9hoz5DX-3ggi3uRhARd-iSKvWl2FYJaFRipoY26HbiIrxOctyTjtEVD93oGTbmPzuR81puYkVSXn4ALjm-xXVRq180A7r3JxfO3r2FNBv4bN0FpU/s640/blog2.jpg" width="289" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Top: Gordman's, Necklace: Target, Skirt: Forever 21</div>
<br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">During this retreat we discussed the basics of what it means to be a Christian leader. As the Lord usually does, He spoke through our main speaker, Fr. Keating, on a topic I have really been struggling with lately: the gifts and skills we have been given. To be a leader is to lead through the skills and gifts you have.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Before this school year, I thought using the gifts and skills you have was automatically bragging. I took on the mindset that using something I have been given that not everyone has would be like shoving it in their face that I have this and they don't. I would never want to make anyone feel bad about that, but perhaps more importantly on my mind was that I didn't want people to judge me for thinking I was "all that" with these skills. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">However, my amazing friends, along with the talk I heard this weekend, have really opened my mind to the reality and purpose of gifts and skills. Let's face it, we all have been given different gifts, skills, desires and traits. Some have a knack for musical instruments, some have a mind for mathematics, some really understand and appreciate science, others are very loyal and hard-working in less desirable fields, and still others are great companions to those in need. Whatever we have been given, it is our duty to use and express these gifts for others. We are not meant to keep them to ourselves or use them to promote self, as they will be corrupt, die and only produce pride in us. Rather, the purpose of gifts is to share them with others, especially with those who have not been gifted in this particular way. Further, to envy other's gifts is to miss the point of them. The gifts are not for ourself, but rather to share with others. Therefore, if another person has been given a unique quality, you should rejoice that the Lord has bestowed them with you because you can benefit from it!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">One can truly add a lot to her community and society when she recognizes the skills she has, in addition to those she desires using (ex. You may have a mind for math but think it is ridiculously boring,) but especially recognizing, honoring and giving thanks to the Giver.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">A great way to discover what you are good at is by trying new things, being open to suggestions and paying attention to compliments people give, or the tasks people regularly ask of you. Further, you will be doing a great service if you point out the gifts you see others possess.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">If you are careful to share your gifts with others, not keeping them to yourself, recognizing where they come from, and do so with humility and not in self promotion, you are doing it right.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">What gifts have you been given, and in what ways are you sharing them?</span>Catherine Husshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06363084080692591969noreply@blogger.com1
